225.5 thousand Asian Americans applied for Social 225.5 thousand Asian Americans applied for Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or Medicare benefits since March 13, 2020 in New York, California, and Washington between August 19 to August 31, 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey data. This represented about 1.8% of the Asian American population aged 18 years and older. In total, the Asian American population in these three states accounted for about 3.3% of the U.S. population aged 18 years and older that applied for Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or Medicare benefits since March 13, 2020.
